August, 2024

Introducing an new, one-of-a-kind, workshop for summer, 2024! Based on Diary of a Wimpy Kid, it's a fun, hands-on experience designed to equip students with practical skills and mindsets for success in middle school and beyond.

Through entertaining TED Talks, YouTube videos, and DWK movie clips students participate in lively activities and discussions focused on building cognitive-behavioral skills, organization, some nuts-and-bolts writing skills, and promoting overall well-being.

There's nothing else like it.
DoK is about building skills and confidence that enable a smoother transition to the new school year.  Through a mix of engaging discussions and interactive activities, students will explore a range of highly relevant topics, some of which are listed below. Useful materials including handouts and shared Google documents/PDFs will be provided.   Topics include:

  • Executive function skills:  The workshop disrupts the typical "planning and organizing," school-stuff approach to EF skills in favor of a more accurate and practical understanding of these quality of life skills.

  • Organizational skills:  Strategies, tools, handouts, etc. that enhance study habits, improve writing skills, enable focus, smooth AM/PM routines, and more will be shared and discussed in depth.

  • Mindsets:  Helping students challenge limiting beliefs and pivot towards open-mindedness and a growth-mindset is a cornerstone of the experience.

  • Communication skills: Your child will learn practical strategies for cool-headed problem-solving with parents, teachers, and peers.

  • Technology and screen time: Via articles and TED Talk snippets, students will participate in light-hearted, straight talk regarding the impacts of excessive screen time on cognitive growth, attention, and sleep.

  • Nuts and bolts tech skills:  Students will bring and use their device of choice for these hands-on lessons -time, task management, note-taking, etc.

  • Peer pressure: Students will learn about how it impacts behavior and decision-making, along with practical strategies to resist it and even lead, positively.

  • Goal setting and change:  Your child will leave this course with a set of priorities and a plan of action.
